Purpose

The purpose of a training class is to teach the student the skill of communicating with another species, a dog. Just like learning a foreign language, it is done systematically. The traditional obedience exercises are used as means to this end. They can be viewed as the rules of grammar, which then enable us to use words we have learned correctly. Once he has learned to communicate with his dog and now understands his dog's language, the student can resolve most problems he has on his own.

The Basic Obedience Course consists of me teaching you the beginning commands for you to teach to your dog:
Heel:
(walk on a loose leash on handler's left side), SIT (the dog will begin to sit automatically when the handler comes to a stop), Down (the dog will lay down when told), Stay (the dog will learn to stay in the spot the handler has placed, despite distractions) Stand (the dog will remain standing when told, for grooming, exams etc.) Recall (the dog will come when called and sit in front of the handler).
The handler is required to do "homework" with his dog at least 5 days a week for approximately 15-30 minutes per day. Written instruction sheets will be provided.

Private lessons are also available by appointment. These include the same commands, the handler still has to do "homework"

Another option is that I come to your house and train the dog for you while you are at work or busy elsewhere.
